Anderson .Paak
From Oxnard
About
Also known as: Anderson .Pakk, Anderson.Paak, Brandon Anderson Park, Brandon Paak Anderson, Breezy Lovejoy, DJ Pee .Wee
Brandon Paak Anderson grew up in Oxnard, California, with a backstory that reads like it was designed to fuel serious art: his father was arrested after a violent incident when Anderson was seven, and his mother later went to prison for fraud. He was briefly homeless with his wife and young son after losing a job at a marijuana farm in Santa Barbara. That kind of weight shows up in his music. Starting out under the name Breezy Lovejoy, he built his sound from bedroom production and drumming at his family's church, eventually breaking through with Malibu in 2016 and racking up Grammys for Best Rap Performance, Best R&B Album, and Best R&B Performance. Then came Silk Sonic, his duo with Bruno Mars, and their debut single Leave the Door Open went straight to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and took home Song of the Year and Record of the Year at the Grammys. He performs live with his backing band the Free Nationals, a full ensemble covering guitar, bass, piano, keys and drums.
