Rotterdam born and raised, Benny Rodrigues has Portugese roots and has spent over two decades making himself one of the most respected names in Dutch electronic music. Under his own name he works in house and tech house, but flip to his alias ROD and things get darker and deeper, rooted in Detroit and Berlin techno, acid and dub. That range is part of what makes him stand out: very few people move convincingly between those worlds. In 2021 his peers voted him the most influential Dutch DJ in a list of fifty artists compiled by VPRO's 3voor12, which says a lot about the esteem he is held in across the scene. His ROD project launched in 2011 with the debut EP Malmok on Ben Klock's Klockworks label, and he has since played rooms like Berghain and Trouw, often known for marathon sets. He handles his own bookings, skips the management and keeps a low social media profile, letting the music do the talking.
