Bleachers grew out of Jack Antonoff's restless creativity while he was touring with Fun., and what started as a secret solo project quickly took on a life of its own. The band's sound pulls hard from the late 1980s and early 1990s, with the spirit of John Hughes high school films baked into the DNA, but wrapped in modern production that keeps it from feeling like nostalgia for its own sake. Their debut single "I Wanna Get Better" landed in 2014 and set the tone, followed by five studio albums that trace a steady evolution from synth soaked indie rock toward something bigger and more open. By the time Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night arrived in 2021, with Bruce Springsteen guesting on "Chinatown", Bleachers had grown well beyond a one man project. In 2023, longtime touring musicians officially joined as full members, and the band released their self titled album in 2024 alongside a re recording of Strange Desire called A Stranger Desired.
