Dutch rapper Brainpower, born Gerrit Jan Mulder in Antwerp, has been one of the most consistent figures in Dutch language hip hop since the late 1990s. His 2002 single "Dansplaat" hit number one in both the Netherlands and Belgium, and that same year he took home the MTV Award for best Dutch act. His catalog spans a string of solo albums, from the debut "Door Merg en Brain" through the double album "Hart/Hard", plus a side project with rap group ADHD and reggae flavored work recorded partly in Jamaica with dancehall legend Yellowman. Brainpower has always moved between worlds, rapping in Dutch while also releasing English material, collaborating with everyone from opera singer Anthony Heidweiller at the Concertgebouw to Jean Grae and Ced Gee of the Ultramagnetic MCs. His 2009 greatest hits box set earned him a triple platinum award as the best selling Dutch language solo MC of all time. His 2015 album "Determination" showed he was still pushing forward, and his song "Mijn Manier" even turned up as the weather segment on the cult podcast Welcome To Night Vale.
