About
Brazzaville is a Los Angeles indie pop band built around songwriter and vocalist David Brown, who named the group after the capital of the Republic of the Congo. Before launching Brazzaville in 1997, Brown was Beck's saxophonist and played on two of Beck's most celebrated records, Odelay and Midnite Vultures, which gives you some idea of the musical world he comes from. Over the years the band has put out a remarkably varied catalogue, from early albums like Somnambulista and Rouge On Pockmarked Cheeks through to later records like The Oceans of Ganymede, Dream Sea, and Sheila's Dream. Their sound pulls in musicians playing everything from trumpet and accordion to ukulele and melodica, and their 2009 live album Brazzaville in Istanbul hints at the international feel that runs through their work. A 2024 compilation, Lazy Days in Eixample, suggests the band is still very much active.
