About

Corrella got their start in 2017 among Royal New Zealand Navy personnel living on Corrella Road in the Auckland suburb of Belmont, and that naval origin shapes everything about them. Many of their songs draw directly from their experiences on overseas tours, and the eight piece group reflects the multicultural makeup of the navy itself, with Māori, Pasifika and Pākehā members. Lead singer Pipiwharauroa Campbell grew up speaking te reo Māori as his first language, and that connection runs deep through the band's music. Their 2023 single 'Ko Au (I Am Me)', written by Campbell about rediscovering pride in his cultural identity, topped the te reo Māori singles chart. Then 'Blue Eyed Māori', from their debut album Road from 26, became a genuine sleeper hit, reaching number one on the New Zealand artists' singles chart and landing among the most aired and streamed songs in the country that year. The Campbell siblings, Pipiwharauroa and Ngawaiwera, are the heart of the group, and their cousin is singer Stan Walker, who grew up next door to them in Tauranga.
