About

Also known as: D.J. Vadim, Vadim

DJ Vadim has been blending hip hop, soul, reggae and electronica in ways few producers dare to attempt, and critics have called him one of the few artists creating genuinely new work in hip hop. Born in Saint Petersburg and based in London, he launched his own label Jazz Fudge in 1994 before moving to Ninja Tune and later BBE, racking up an impressive catalogue that stretches from his U.S.S.R. series through to the Dubcatcher trilogy. His collaborator list reads like a who's who across genres, taking in Stevie Wonder, Prince, The Roots, Kraftwerk and Public Enemy, plus deep cuts with UK underground figures like Skinnyman and Killa Kela. He co founded the hip hop group One Self, whose Children of Possibility landed on Ninja Tune in 2005, and he is also the producer for Spanish hip hop act 7 Notas 7 Colores, earning a Latin Grammy nomination alongside them. More recently he has been putting out music with artists like Dub FX, keeping that genre crossing energy very much alive.
