About

Also known as: Dropkick Murphies, Dropkick Murphy's

Formed in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1996, Dropkick Murphys built their name through relentless touring around New England and the East Coast on independent punk label Hellcat Records before breaking into the mainstream. Their Celtic punk sound — loud, energetic, and rooted in Irish-American identity — found its commercial breakthrough with "I'm Shipping Up to Boston", featured in the 2006 film The Departed and the band's only platinum single to date. That track appeared on The Warrior's Code alongside "Tessie", a tribute to the Boston Red Sox fanclub the Royal Rooters that became their first mainstream hit. Since moving to their own Born & Bred imprint in 2007, the band has climbed steadily up the Billboard charts, peaking at No. 6 with 2011's Going Out in Style. A yearly St. Patrick's Day week residency in and around Boston has become a tradition, and the band has kept a prolific pace into the 2020s, releasing three albums in three years between 2021 and 2023.
