About

Also known as: Gerald Joling

Gerard Joling grew up in Schagen after being born in Alkmaar, and got his first taste of showbiz as a model and dancer, appearing in clips for acts like Earth and Fire and the Dolly Dots before anyone was paying attention to him as a singer. That changed fast once he entered the 1985 Soundmixshow and finished third, because within the same year he had scored big hits including 'Ticket to the Tropics' and 'Love Is in Your Eyes'. His high tenor voice became his calling card. The breakthrough went international with 'No More Boleros' in 1989, which hit the top 10 across mainland Europe and sat at number one in the Netherlands and parts of East Asia for weeks. It got covered by everyone from Karel Gott to Demis Roussos. In 1988 he had already represented the Netherlands at Eurovision with 'Shangri La', and in 1990 he picked up a World Music Award in Monaco for Best Selling Dutch Artist. On top of his solo career Joling has been one third of Dutch supergroup De Toppers since 2005, filling arenas yearly. He is also a familiar face on Dutch TV as a presenter and jury member on shows like The Voice Senior and The Masked Singer.
