Few debut albums have hit as hard as Appetite for Destruction. Released in 1987, it has sold over 30 million copies worldwide, making Guns N' Roses one of the biggest hard rock acts to ever come out of Los Angeles. The band blended sleazy glam metal swagger with genuine punk aggression, and tracks like those on Appetite still sound like nothing else from that era. The classic lineup of Axl Rose, Slash, Duff McKagan, Izzy Stradlin and Steven Adler powered through G N' R Lies and then the massive Use Your Illusion I and II in 1991, but years of lineup chaos followed. By 1997, Rose was the only original member left. He eventually delivered Chinese Democracy in 2008, a record 15 years in the making with a reported production budget of 13 million dollars. The reunion of Rose, Slash and McKagan in 2016 brought the core back together, and that lineup has been the band's foundation ever since.
