About
Also known as: HG!
Holy Ghost! built their sound in Brooklyn, where Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel had known each other since their school days on the Upper West Side of New York City. Before the duo existed, the two were part of a hip hop group called Automato, whose debut album was produced by James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy of DFA. When that project wound down, they kept making music together and gradually drifted into alternative dance territory. Their debut single "Hold On" landed in November 2007, with Resident Advisor calling it one of the dirtiest little Italo tunes of the year. Early on they racked up remix work for Moby, Cut Copy and MGMT, and their single "I Will Come Back" came with a video that is a shot for shot remake of New Order's "Confusion" video, complete with Arthur Baker reprising his own role from the original. They hit the road early too, touring alongside label mates LCD Soundsystem. Over the years, Holy Ghost! released three full length albums: their self titled debut, Dynamics, and Work, plus a pair of EPs in Static on the Wire and Crime Cutz. A solid run for a duo who started out making beats together in their hometown.
