About
Also known as: Iiro Emil Rantala
Finnish jazz pianist Iiro Rantala trained at both the Sibelius Academy's jazz department and the Manhattan School of Music, and has become one of the most recognizable Finnish jazz names at home and abroad. He is best known as pianist and composer with Trio Töykeät, and later formed the Iiro Rantala New Trio — an unusual lineup pairing piano with guitar and beatbox. Beyond jazz, he has ventured into classical composition, including a Concerto for Piano and a Concerto in G♯ΔA♭, and in 2017 received a nomination for the Nordic Council Music Prize.
