About
Also known as: ionna lee
Behind the ionnalee project is Jonna Lee, a Swedish singer, songwriter, producer and visual director from Fågelsta who has spent years building one of the more distinctive audiovisual worlds in contemporary electronic music. Most people first encountered her through iamamiwhoami, the mysterious online project she launched in 2009 that combined synth driven music with cinematic visuals and won a Grammis Award as Innovator of the Year in 2010. She runs her own independent label, To whom it may concern, giving her full control over everything she releases. The ionnalee alias arrived in 2017 with the single Samaritan, developed in collaboration with Comme des Garçons and Dover Street Market. Her debut album under the name, Everyone Afraid to Be Forgotten, came out in February 2018 and was accompanied by a fan funded world tour via Kickstarter and a full visual feature film she directed herself. A sophomore album, Remember the Future, followed in 2019. She has also worked with Röyksopp and remixed Moby, keeping her sound firmly in the space where synth pop, art pop and electropop blur together.
