Joey Bada$$ built his name on the kind of raw, sample heavy boom bap that felt like a love letter to 90s New York, and he did it before he was even old enough to vote. His 2012 debut mixtape 1999 blew up the underground and landed on Complex's best albums of the year list, while HipHopDX called it the best mixtape of 2012 outright. He followed that momentum into two studio albums, B4.Da.$$ and All Amerikkkan Badass, both of which hit number five on the Billboard 200 and showed him expanding his voice without ditching the gritty east coast sound that made him. Beyond rap, he crossed into acting with a role in the USA Network drama Mr. Robot, and his third album 2000 arrived in 2022. Recent videos for tracks like Fallin' and Show Me suggest he has stayed busy keeping new music coming.
