While writing for Tree International in Nashville, his song "Sure As I'm Sittin' Here" was covered by Three Dog Night and became a Top 40 hit, landing him a recording contract with Epic Records. Across more than two decades he has released 22 studio albums spanning new wave, blues, and country, and earned nine Grammy nominations along the way.
