About
Out of Johannesburg, Liquideep is the duo that helped put South African house music on the global map. The group came together when American born musician and producer Ziyon met Alexandra native DJ and producer Ryzor through a mutual friend in 2006. The pair struck a deal: Ziyon would teach Ryzor music production, and Ryzor would teach Ziyon to DJ. That exchange turned into something special. Their 2009 debut album Oscillations set the tone, but it was Fabrics of the Heart in 2010 that really blew things open. The album won Album of the Year at the South African Music Awards, and the single Fairytale, written about a real heartbreak within the duo, became a massive hit, earning Song of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards. The track's success landed them on stage with Akon and Angie Stone, and earned endorsements from names like Chevrolet and Ben Sherman. Liquideep draws on African beats while keeping an ear open to global influences, something they credit to extensive travel and genuine respect for different cultures. They released Welcome Aboard in January 2013 and were nominated for Best African Act at the MOBO Awards that same year. They have always said they prefer playing to a live crowd, where the feedback is real and unfiltered.
