Little Big Town

About

Also known as: LBT

Few country acts can pull off four genuine lead vocalists without anyone feeling like a backup singer, but that's exactly what Little Big Town built their whole identity around. Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Phillip Sweet, and Jimi Westbrook have been the same core four since forming in 1998, weaving tight harmonies that set them apart from the standard frontperson plus band setup. Fairchild and Westbrook, married since 2006, met their future bandmates through separate Nashville journeys, with Fairchild and Schlapman first crossing paths at Samford University back in the late eighties. Their early going was rough: a first deal with Mercury Nashville yielded nothing, and after Monument Records folded its Nashville operation, the band took day jobs just to keep going. Things shifted with their 2005 album The Road to Here, which went platinum and gave them their breakout with "Boondocks". From there they built a steady run on Capitol Nashville, racking up number ones with "Pontoon" and "Better Man" and top ten hits like "Girl Crush" and "Day Drinking". By the mid 2010s they were one of the most consistent acts in country music, with multiple albums hitting the top of the country albums chart.
