Night Beats
From Seattle
About
Named after a Sam Cooke album, Night Beats grew out of Seattle's garage and psychedelic rock scene with a sound that pulls from soul, blues, and raw rock and roll. The band is essentially the ongoing project of one person, Danny Lee Blackwell, and his restless approach to collaboration has kept things interesting across seven studio albums. A pivotal moment came with 2019's Myth of a Man, recorded with Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach and backed by session veterans who had played with Elvis Presley and Aretha Franklin. That same year the band put out a full covers record dedicated to garage legends The Sonics. Blackwell never seems to stay still. He teamed up with Carolina Faruolo for the Tropicalia flavored Monte Carlo in 2022, dropped the album Rajan on Suicide Squeeze Records in 2023, and in early 2025 stepped behind the camera to direct his first music video for the new single Behind the Green Door. He also runs a side project called UFO Club with Christian Bland of the Black Angels, so there is always something going on in his orbit.
