About
Novastar is a Belgian rock band built around Dutch born singer, songwriter and guitarist Joost Zweegers, whose distinctively high voice and knack for emotional ballads have made him a fixture in both the Belgian and Dutch music scenes. Winning Humo's Rock Rally in 1996 set things in motion, and when the self titled debut finally dropped in 2000 it went straight to number one on the Ultratop chart and earned a platinum record. Neil Young heard it and was impressed enough to invite the band to open several European dates for Neil Young and Crazy Horse. From there, each album became its own project. The Ozark Henry produced follow up Another Lonely Soul topped the charts again in 2004, while Almost Bangor brought in percussionist Luis Jardim and engineer Kevin Killen for a broader sound that earned Novastar a 3FM Award for Best Alternative Artist in the Netherlands. Inside Outside, produced by John Leckie, hit number one in Belgium on its first day of release in 2014. The band has since released two more albums, In the Cold Light of Monday in 2018 and Holler and Shout in 2021.
