Growing up in San Francisco's Fillmore District, Rappin' 4 Tay got his foot in the door early, appearing on a Too Short album straight out of high school. After a stint in prison on drug charges, he came back swinging with his debut album in 1991 and then really hit his stride with Don't Fight the Feelin' in 1994. That record gave him two charting singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including 'Playaz Club' and 'I'll Be Around', the latter reaching number one in New Zealand. He also landed two songs on the Dangerous Minds soundtrack in 1995. His profile got another boost when 2Pac tapped him for 'Only God Can Judge Me' on All Eyez on Me, and he was part of the Bay Area supergroup T.W.D.Y. at the end of the decade. Off the music, he had a well publicized dispute with Drake over borrowed lyrics from 'Playaz Club', which ended in an out of court settlement that itself became its own drama when the promised payment reportedly never arrived. He eventually collected royalties through other means, including an auction on Royalty Exchange.
