About

Also known as: Carlos Barbosa de Lima Jr., Carlos Lima, S. P. Y, S.P.Y., Spy, Spyder, spydnb, spymusicpage, thespymusic

Originally from São Paulo, Carlos Lima made the move to London in 2003 planning to work as a graphic designer. When the club night he was hosting in Camden couldn't supply him with enough music to play, he started making his own tracks on the Mac he'd bought for design work, and a career in drum and bass was born. He went with the name Spyder at first, but had to drop the last three letters when an American producer beat him to the punch with an EP under the same name, leaving him with S.P.Y. He got his first single out through Metalheadz in 2005, picked up more releases and remixes over the following years, then signed to Hospital Records in 2012. That same year Hospital put out his debut album What The Future Holds, which took home best album at the Drum and Bass Awards. A second album, Back To Basics, followed in 2014, released in two parts because he had too many tracks to fit into one. In January 2015 he was invited to record the Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1, a strong sign of where he stands in the scene.
