Samuel Welten was twelve years old when he stepped in front of the cameras for The Voice Kids in 2019, impressing all four coaches during the blind auditions. Though he didn't make it past the battles, that appearance planted the seed for what would follow years later. The real breakthrough came in early 2025 with his debut single Echte liefde is te koop, which had already gone viral on TikTok before it was officially released on 21 March 2025. Within days it shot to number one on both Spotify Netherlands and the Dutch Single Top 100, and later topped the Sterren NL Top 25 as well. The single picked up a gold certification by the end of April 2025 and then platinum by July, confirming Welten as one of the more surprising success stories in Dutch pop that year. He kept the momentum going with two more singles, Alles kan kapot and Dansen met de duivel, the latter featuring a music video with appearances from artists including Thomas Berge, Monique Smit and Donnie. In early 2026 he won two Edison awards, one in the Dutch language category and one for Best Newcomer, then scored his second number one hit with Maak me nou niet gek, a collaboration with Lil' Kleine and De Amsterdamse Zomer.
