About
Also known as: Sunrise Ave
Few Finnish bands have made as deep a dent in the European rock scene as Sunrise Avenue. Formed in Helsinki in the early 2000s after frontman Samu Haber spent years getting knocked back by record labels who insisted rock couldn't work without black clothes and makeup, the band eventually signed to Bonnier Amigo Music and proved everyone wrong. Their debut single "Fairytale Gone Bad" became a genuine hit across the continent, and the band went on to headline major festivals including the main stage of Rock am Ring. Over five studio albums, Sunrise Avenue built a devoted following across Germany, Switzerland, Austria and much of Eastern Europe. Their best of album "Fairytales" shot straight to number one in both Germany and Switzerland, and later "Heartbreak Century" also debuted at the top of the German charts. The band's sound ranges from full on pop rock to stripped back ballads, and that versatility kept them relevant for well over a decade. In December 2019 the band announced they would stop performing after 2020, going out on their own terms with a farewell tour and a final single called "Thank You for Everything".
