Co-founder of Throwing Muses alongside her step-sister Kristin Hersh, Tanya Donelly has moved through some of alternative rock's most significant acts. She helped form The Breeders with Kim Deal in 1989, then left to front Belly, where she scored a national radio and TV hit with her own composition "Feed the Tree" and earned a Grammy nomination as the band's lead vocalist and songwriter. Belly recorded for Sire/Reprise and 4AD; her solo output has appeared on Warner Bros. and 4AD. Since the late 1990s she has worked largely within the Boston music scene, citing influences from Marc Ribot and the Beatles to Leonard Cohen and Lucinda Williams, and occasionally covering artists like Nina Simone and Pixies alongside her own original material.
