Yousuke Yukimatsu

About

Raised on Deep Purple by his father in Osaka, Yousuke Yukimatsu grew up absorbing classic rock before discovering hard rock, metal, Sonic Youth, and eventually The Prodigy in his teens. He started DJing in 2008 at a friend's party and spent years grinding through the underground scenes of Osaka and Kobe. The real break came in 2014 when techno artist DJ Nobu caught one of his sets and pulled him into Tokyo's Future Terror party circuit. A brain tumor diagnosis in 2016 changed everything. After two surgeries, Yukimatsu left his construction job and committed fully to DJing. He founded the Zone Unknown party series, bringing artists like Arca and Kamixlo to Osaka and Kobe, and in 2020 released the mix album Midnight is Comin' on Singapore's Midnight Shift label, built almost entirely from obscure Japanese experimental music. Pitchfork praised it as one of the most immersive DJ mixes in recent memory. In early 2025 his Boiler Room set in Tokyo went genuinely viral, hitting over twelve million YouTube views in under six months, with acid house woven through references to artists like Romy and Overmono. He also appeared in the 2024 film Happyend, performed at Coachella in 2026, and has a show coming up in Beuningen on 3 July 2026. He performs topless, which at this point is just part of the package.
