About
Also known as: DE TRUCHIS ZAZIE, Isabelle Marie Anne de Truchis de Varennes, Isabelle de Truchis de Varennes, ザジ
Born Isabelle Marie Anne de Truchis de Varennes in Boulogne Billancourt, Zazie picked up her stage name from a Raymond Queneau novel, which says a lot about where her head is at. She grew up in a house full of Brassens, Brel and Barbara, taught herself piano and guitar after starting on violin at ten, and briefly considered a career as a psychotherapist before modelling work pulled her in a different direction and eventually into music. Since her 1992 debut Je, tu, ils, recorded in Peter Gabriel's studio, she has built one of the more distinctive careers in French pop. She co produces all her albums, writes her own lyrics, and has a well known fondness for wordplay, alliteration and double entendres. Her duet with Axel Bauer, À ma place, hit number four in France, and the 2018 single Speed and its accompanying album Essenciel went platinum. She has also been a coach on the French version of The Voice across multiple seasons, and has been part of the Les Enfoirés charity ensemble since 1997.
