Werk aan het Spoel is a fortification located west of Culemborg along the Lek river and is considered one of the most distinctive sites of the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie, a unique historical system of defensive lines and fortifications. The site is on the Dutch candidate list for UNESCO World Heritage status.
