About
Norwegian singer, songwriter, and pianist Anette Askvik occupies a fascinating space between pop and jazz, with a vocal style that critics have compared to everyone from Ane Brun and Beth Gibbons to Björk. Based in Oslo, she runs her own label, Bird Records, and uses it to release music entirely on her own terms. Her debut album Liberty came out in 2011 and sent her touring across Germany, England, France, and the United States. A second album, Multiverse, followed in 2016. Beyond her own records, she has composed scores for several documentaries on Norwegian public broadcaster NRK, including the prize winning 22.07. She has worked with bassist Audun Erlien, drummer Rune Arnesen, and saxophonist Petter Wettre, giving her recordings a live, ensemble feel. 2023 turned out to be a productive year, with two releases landing on Bird Records: With Every Cell and Lyden Av Snø.
