About
Anton Kuerti has spent decades building a reputation as one of Canada's foremost pianists, recording a formidable body of work that spans Beethoven's complete concertos and sonatas, the Schubert sonatas, and the Brahms concertos, among much else. His 1976 Juno Award for The Beethoven Sonatas, Volumes 1, 2 and 3 sits at the centre of a discography that earned him seven Juno nominations in total. Beyond recording, Kuerti has performed in 150 communities across Canada and with every professional Canadian orchestra. He founded the Festival of the Sound in Parry Sound, Ontario in 1980, directed the Czerny Music Festival in Edmonton in 2002, and taught at the University of Toronto, where pianist Jane Coop was among his students. Canada's highest honour in the performing arts, the Governor General's Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement, came his way in 2008.
