About

Also known as: Avenue D.

Avenue D made electroclash that was impossible to ignore: equal parts hip hop swagger, new wave synth, and deliberately outrageous lyrics about sex and desire. The Miami born, New York based duo of Debbie D. and Daphne D. built their reputation on the early 2000s electroclash scene alongside acts like Fischerspooner and Peaches, with Larry Tee as their mentor. Their 2005 single 'Do I Look Like a Slut?' landed on the Billboard Hot Dance Singles Sales chart, and Boy George was enough of a fan to share a stage with them. Critics drew comparisons to 2 Live Crew and Bananarama in the same breath, which tells you everything about the tonal range they were working in. They released six albums on their own label, Avenue Dreams, before calling it quits in late 2007. The farewell came with a heart shaped triple disc box set for Valentine's Day 2008, a fittingly cheeky send off. Debbie D. went on to form the Miami Bass Warriors, while Robyn's 2008 album was being compared to their style, proof that Avenue D had left a mark on the electro landscape long after they stepped off the stage.
