About

Pablo Barragán is a Spanish clarinetist who has built a reputation as one of the more compelling chamber musicians of his generation. He made his name through the West Eastern Divan Orchestra before stepping out as a soloist, and his playing has since graced some of Europe's most prestigious stages, from the Wigmore Hall in London to the Kölner Philharmonie. A reviewer covering his Brahms Clarinet Quintet performance with the Schumann Quartet described the clarinet as 'first among equals', capturing 'all the complexity of a human being's warring passions' by the final movement. His recordings span Brahms sonatas and trios through to rarer 20th century fare like Karl Amadeus Hartmann's Kammerkonzert, where one critic praised his 'incredibly differentiated clarinet playing'. His 2024 chamber recording with violinist Noa Wildschut and pianist Frank Dupree pulled in works by Paul Schoenfield and Claude Vivier, showing a genuine appetite for music well off the beaten path.
