About
Capitão Fausto are one of Portugal's most compelling rock acts, a Lisbon four piece whose knack for crafting album oriented rock earned them back to back number one records on the Portuguese charts. Their 2016 release Capitão Fausto Têm os Dias Contados and the 2019 follow up A Invenção do Dia Claro both topped the charts, a rare feat that underlines just how devoted their domestic fanbase is. The band has been together since 2009, built around the core lineup of Tomás Wallenstein on vocals and guitar, Manuel Palha on guitar, Domingos Coimbra on bass, and Salvador Seabra on drums. Even the name is a bit of a mystery: there are multiple competing stories about where "Capitão Fausto" comes from, and the band has never officially settled the question. Long standing keyboard player Francisco Ferreira departed in 2024, leaving the group as a tight quartet. They have also shown a willingness to engage beyond the stage, taking part in a benefit concert to support victims of Storm Kristin, which hit central Portugal hard.
