With over 100 million records sold and more than two billion streams, Cat Stevens built one of the most distinctive catalogs in British folk and rock history. Albums like Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat went triple platinum in the US, and Catch Bull at Four hit number one on the Billboard 200. Songs like "Father and Son", "Wild World", "Peace Train" and "The First Cut Is the Deepest" have been covered endlessly, the last one earning ASCAP songwriting awards in both 2005 and 2006 after becoming a hit for four different artists. After converting to Islam in 1977 and stepping away from secular music for nearly three decades, he came back in 2006 with An Other Cup, performing as Yusuf. By 2017 he was using the name Yusuf / Cat Stevens, releasing The Laughing Apple and reclaiming the Cat Stevens identity for the first time in 39 years. In 2020 he revisited Tea for the Tillerman with a full reimagining to mark its 50th anniversary, and in 2023 he put out King of a Land, his latest studio album. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
