About
Pianist Marie François takes Tchaikovsky's The Seasons, a twelve part suite tracing the months of the year, and transforms it into something far beyond a solo piano piece. For this project she invited four poets, two from the Netherlands and two from Belgium, to write new poems in response to the music. Joke van Leeuwen, Lize Spit, Max Temmerman and Ester Naomi Perquin each contributed, while illustrator Juliane Noll created visual work to complete the whole. The result is a multidisciplinary collaboration that puts poetry, image and music in conversation with one another. François consistently approaches classical repertoire from unexpected angles. Her album Who Doesn't Love Chopin's Nocturnes? grew out of an intensive period of research in Warsaw, where she spent a month retracing Chopin's steps and documented the experience in a podcast. That habit of sharing her curiosity and process with audiences is central to how she works.
