Dénes Várjon is a Hungarian pianist whose career spans solo recitals, chamber music, and festival programming at the highest level. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Wigmore Hall and the Wiener Konzerthaus, and his chamber music partners have included Steven Isserlis, Tabea Zimmermann, Leonidas Kavakos, Jörg Widmann and András Schiff. Since 2019 he has been running the "Complete Works Live" series in Budapest, dedicated to Robert Schumann's chamber music for piano, a project that shows where his deepest interests lie. Várjon records for ECM, Naxos, Capriccio and Hungaroton, with releases ranging from Bartók and Debussy to Berg and Janáček. Recent recordings include Beethoven violin sonatas with Antje Weithaas and a French album of Ravel, Fauré and Debussy made with his wife, fellow pianist Izabella Simon. In 2020 he received the Kossuth Prize, Hungary's highest cultural honour. He is also a professor at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music and Principal Professor at the Kronberg Academy.
