About

At seventeen, Emmy Verhey became the youngest prize winning finalist at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, walking away with her first recording contract and a graduation exam so oversubscribed it had to be held at the Concertgebouw. That kind of early momentum set the tone for a career that took the Amsterdam born violinist across Europe, the United States, Israel, South Korea and Japan, performing alongside conductors like Bernard Haitink, Mariss Jansons and Riccardo Chailly, and chamber partners including Yehudi Menuhin and Mischa Maisky. Verhey is known for a warm, rich tone and a technique solid enough to carry a repertoire stretching from Baroque to contemporary. She played two exceptional instruments over the course of her career: the Earl Spencer Stradivarius from 1712, and an Andrea Guarneri from 1676. She co founded the string ensemble Camerata Antonio Lucio in 1991 and racked up more than 55 recordings before playing her farewell concert in Amsterdam in November 2015.
