About
Franz Vorraber is an Austrian pianist and composer whose most ambitious project, a complete recording of Robert Schumann's piano works across thirteen CDs, earned him the Austrian Broadcasting's Pasticcio prize. He has performed across Europe, Japan and the United States, sharing stages with orchestras like the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg and the Robert Schumann Philharmonie, working with conductors including Dennis Russell Davies and Marcus Bosch. His 2001 DVD AUDIO release Wiener Abend picked up the Best Disk Award in Japan. As a composer, Vorraber has had premieres at notable venues including the monastery festival in Maulbronn and the Gewandhaus Leipzig, where his Nonet was first performed. One of his most personal projects is Sätze von Liebe, a collaboration with writer Peter Härtling combining poems with original compositions. Since 1991 he has taught piano at the Academy of Music in Wiesbaden, and his recordings span Schubert, Brahms and his own works alongside the Schumann cycle.
