About
Jorge Palma is one of Portugal's most enduring singer songwriters, a figure who spent years busking through Spain, Brazil, and the streets of Paris playing Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen covers before carving out a serious reputation back home. His breakthrough came with the 1985 album O Lado Errado da Noite, which spawned the hit single 'Deixa me Rir' and swept up prizes from the Portuguese press. Four years later, Bairro do Amor cemented his standing with songs like 'Frágil' that remain among his most loved. His 1991 solo piano album Só, recorded on a Steinway at the Valentim de Carvalho studios, was later named one of the best Portuguese albums of all time by music magazine Blitz. He has never stayed in one lane for long: from the hard rock of Palma's Gang to the traditional Portuguese flavours of the supergroup Rio Grande, and a renewed hit with the 2007 single 'Encosta te a Mim', Palma has kept finding new ways to connect with audiences across decades.
