Lisa O'Neill has one of those voices that stops people in their tracks: a dark contralto that found a massive new audience in 2021 when her cover of Dylan's "All the Tired Horses" scored the final episode of Peaky Blinders. It was a fitting breakthrough for someone whose work sits at the intersection of Irish folk tradition and something altogether more stark and personal. Her albums have repeatedly drawn nominations for both the Choice Music Prize and the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, and she took home Best Original Folk Track at the 2019 RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards for "Rock the Machine". She has a gift for unlikely collaborations done right. David Gray brought her along as both support act and touring band member for his North American run. She appeared on the Yorkston/Thorne/Khan debut, performed an unforgettable a cappella version of "Factory Girl" with Lankum's Radie Peat, sang at Shane MacGowan's funeral alongside the Pogues and Glen Hansard, and later joined the Pogues for their Rum Sodomy and the Lash anniversary tour. Her 2025 EP "The Wind Doesn't Blow This Far Right" features Pete Doherty on one track.
