Nymphia Wind made history on RuPaul's Drag Race Season 16 by becoming the first ever East Asian winner of the competition, taking home the title of America's Next Drag Superstar and a $200,000 prize. Born Leo Tsao and based in Los Angeles, she beat out thirteen other queens, with Sapphira Cristál as runner up in a fiercely contested finale. Her win came in a season that also introduced a LaLaPaRuZa Lip Sync Smackdown for eliminated contestants, adding an extra layer of spectacle to the whole affair. Beyond the Drag Race stage, Nymphia has a deep connection to Taiwan, something that comes through clearly in her content. She has documented her experiences there through video series and personal love letters to the island, including a striking electronic flower car farewell drag show in 2024. That blend of Taiwanese cultural references and high drag artistry is very much her signature.
