About

Opprobrium, originally operating as Incubus, built their reputation on a ferocious death and thrash metal crossover that blends brutal riffs with lyrics touching on death, violence and occasional Christian themes. Founded in Metairie, Louisiana in 1986 by Brazilian brothers Francis and Moyses Howard, the band scored a label deal off their very first demo and put out the debut Serpent Temptation in 1988. They later signed to Nuclear Blast and released Beyond the Unknown before going quiet for a decade, returning in 2000 with Discerning Forces under the new name Opprobrium after a California rock band claimed the Incubus name. Their connections to metal royalty are real: Francis Howard contributed guest vocals to Cannibal Corpse's Eaten Back to Life, and both he and original bassist Scot Latour sang background vocals on the Sepultura track Stronger Than Hate. A 2017 rumour that Metallica had lifted riffs from the band's Incubus era turned out to be false, though it did pull fresh ears toward their catalogue. Their most recent album, The Fallen Entities, came out in 2019 on High Roller Records.
