Pablo Sainz Villegas is a Spanish classical guitarist based in New York City, widely regarded as one of the most compelling figures in the contemporary classical guitar world. His 2018 signing with Sony Classical marked a major milestone, kicking off with Volver, a collaboration with Plácido Domingo featuring Iberian and Latin American songs arranged by Nazareno Andorno. That partnership between the warmth of his guitar playing and Domingo's voice made for a record that felt both intimate and grand. His Sony discography has kept growing since then, with Soul of Spanish Guitar in 2020 and The Blue Album in 2023. Before Sony, he was already building his reputation through recordings like Americano and a tango collaboration with violinist Augustin Hadelich. His 2008 Critical Eye Award in classical music was an early signal of the kind of attention his playing would go on to attract.
