Patrick Gallois is a French flutist and conductor whose career has taken him from the principal flute chair of the Orchestre National de France to the podium of orchestras across Europe and Japan. He held that principal position from 1977 to 1984, having studied with the legendary Jean Pierre Rampal at the Conservatoire de Paris, and went on to work alongside conductors including Leonard Bernstein, Pierre Boulez, and Sergiu Celibidache. Chamber music has always been a serious thread in his work too, with collaborators like Yuri Bashmet, Natalia Gutman, and Peter Schreier. On the recording front, Gallois built up an extensive discography, starting with an exclusive deal with Deutsche Grammophon from 1991 and later recording prolifically for Naxos, with well over 75 releases to his name. He served as music director of Jyväskylä Sinfonia in Finland from 2003 to 2012, touring Europe and Japan with the orchestra, and has been on the faculty of the Accademia Musicale Chigiana since 1999.
