About
Rita Payés is a Spanish jazz and bossa nova trombonist and singer whose voice has been described as angelic by NPR Music, which also named her album Como la piel one of the best Latin albums of 2021. She came up through the Sant Andreu Jazz Band under director Joan Chamorro, where she sang alongside some of Spain's most promising young jazz voices before releasing her debut album at just fifteen. Her sound blends jazz, bossa nova and lounge music with hints of Americana, and she plays trombone as well as she sings. Several of her records have been made with her mother, classical guitarist Elisabeth Roma, and her partner Pol Batlle is also a regular collaborator. A standout moment came at the 2022 Goya Awards, where she performed alongside C. Tangana on live national television and, by at least one account, stole the show entirely. Her third studio album De camino al camino arrived in 2024.
