About

Spread Eagle came together fast. Formed in New York City in 1989, the band signed with MCA/Universal Records after just a few months of rehearsing, before they had even played their first gig. That meant writing most of their self titled 1990 debut in the studio, and when MCA gave them little promotional support, they funded the video for "Scratch Like a Cat" out of their own pockets. Their second album Open to the Public arrived in 1993 with session drummers from TNT and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts filling in, but grunge had shifted the landscape and the band split in 1995. After a decade away, Rob De Luca and Ray West brought the band back in 2006, eventually settling into a stable lineup. The third album Subway to the Stars landed in 2019 on Frontiers Music SRL and made several best of year lists, including the top five hard rock releases on Ultimate Guitar. Its lead single "Sound of Speed" even became the official song of an Australian drag racing team for the 2019 to 2020 season.
