About
Also known as: Gentleman Professional
Work Drugs are a synth pop duo out of Philadelphia, built around Thomas Crystal and Benjamin Louisiana, who reportedly bonded over music while attending sailing school. That nautical thread runs straight through their whole vibe: they once described themselves as a band that makes music specifically for boating, yachting, and dancing, and their name was coined by a friend while they were sailing the Baja coast of Mexico. The Guardian compared their sound to hearing Steely Dan's Aja through fog, which is about as evocative a description as you could ask for. They hit the ground running with early singles like Third Wave and Rad Racer, then dropped three albums in just over a year: Summer Blood, Aurora Lies, and Absolute Bearing. Rad Racer got a boost when it appeared in an Urban Outfitters campaign and landed a remix on Xxyyxx's album Still Sound. On the live front they've shared stages with Two Door Cinema Club, Peter Bjorn and John, Umphrey's McGee, and Battles, among others, and made appearances at SXSW and CMJ.
