Jello Biafra returns to the stage after suffering a brain hemorrhage

Jello Biafra, the former frontman of influential punk band Dead Kennedys, has made his return to the stage. On June 27 he appeared as a surprise guest at TentacleFest at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, more than three months after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke in March caused by high blood pressure.

Biafra joined Colorado band Wheelchair Sports Camp during their set at the festival. He sang the chorus of the song Make It Make It Sense, taken from the album oh imperfecta, which was released on May 15 through Alternative Tentacles. Dressed in his trademark satirical outfit, he took the stage for what was his first live performance since his stroke.

Over the past few months, Biafra has been steadily working on his recovery. Anne Marie Anderson from record label Alternative Tentacles, the label Biafra himself founded, has been caring for him and keeping his fans updated on his progress. The fact that his comeback took place at a festival tied to his own label makes the moment all the more symbolic.
