Metallica pays tribute to The Pogues and The Proclaimers with surprise covers in Ireland and Scotland

Metallica gave their recent shows in Dublin and Glasgow a special local flavour by playing covers from two iconic British and Irish acts. In Dublin, the thrash metal legends went with a The Pogues number, while the Glasgow crowd got a surprise tribute to The Proclaimers. Both covers happened during what's known as the 'Rob And Kirk Doodle' section of the show, a regular instrumental interlude where bassist Rob Trujillo and guitarist Kirk Hammett get the freedom to improvise and experiment.

It's a tradition Metallica have used before to create a personal connection with the crowd in whatever city they're playing. By deliberately picking artists who are deeply rooted in local culture, they manage to add an extra emotional charge to their shows time and time again.
