The Big Moon announces fourth album 'Forever' following frontwoman's hearing loss

The Big Moon are releasing their new album 'Forever' on October 30th through Fiction Records, with the catchy 'Gravity' as the first single.
The Big Moon, the London indie rock band fronted by Juliette Jackson, have announced their fourth studio album. 'Forever' comes out on 30 October via Fiction Records, three years on from 'Here Is Everything' in 2022. The ten track album is accompanied by the lead single 'Gravity' and a UK tour in November, wrapping up with the band's biggest headline show to date at the O2 Academy Brixton in London.
The making of 'Forever' is deeply tied to a serious medical episode in Jackson's life. She was diagnosed with a cholesteatoma, a benign but destructive cyst in the eardrum that required surgical removal. The result was permanent hearing loss on one side. "I permanently lost most of the hearing on one side, which was pretty much existential, because writing songs is my job and my identity," Jackson said. "I couldn't hear properly; everything sounded out of tune and I was just struggling to find a point at all, just writing these miserable songs I couldn't really hear."
Rather than sinking into gloom, Jackson chose a distinctive writing strategy: she started making songs for an imaginary version of herself, one or two years in the future, who would be fully healed and happy. "I just decided to write songs for this imaginary time, one or two years in the future, when I would be all healed and happy again," she explained. "I didn't know if I would ever get to that point, but by projecting and almost tricking myself into it, it actually became a really nice way of writing." That approach reportedly resulted in the brightest songs The Big Moon have ever made, packed with hook heavy alternative pop moments.
The opening single 'Gravity' was inspired by the bond between Jackson and her young son. "At the time I wrote this song, every time I collected my son from nursery he would run and slam into me and give me the biggest hug," she said. "I knew it wouldn't last forever, and I savoured everyone, and this song ended up commemorating that feeling. It's about a love that you're never really separated from, just elasticated, ready to snap back together." The album was recorded in three weeks at Bam Bam Studios in Norfolk, with Sam Cohen, known for his work with Kevin Morby, co producing alongside the band themselves.
Bassist Celia Archer highlighted the uplifting power of the material: "They're not trivial songs lyrically or thematically or musically, but Jules has shown us you can face all this stuff and choose to be hopeful and find power from it. Hopefully other people can apply that to their own lives." The tracklist includes 'Gravity' alongside songs such as 'F.O.R.E.V.E.R', 'You Remind Me That I'm Dying (And That It's Good To Be Alive)' and closes out with 'Chill'.
The accompanying UK tour takes place in November 2026, taking the band through Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol, Brighton, Manchester and Leeds, finishing up on 27 November at the O2 Academy Brixton in London. Tickets go on general sale on Friday 3 July at 10am. Ahead of the album season, the band are currently out as support for Alanis Morissette on her UK and Irish tour, and they are also set to open for Self Esteem and Public Service Broadcasting this summer.
