Haventheater IJmuiden is a purpose built theatre on the Dokweg in IJmuiden, currently serving as the temporary home of Velsen's main municipal theatre while the original venue on the Groeneweg undergoes a large scale renovation and renewal. The move to this location began in early 2023, and the building was designed with a nautical character that consciously references the industrial port identity of IJmuiden, one of the busiest fishing and cargo harbours in the Netherlands. The main auditorium seats 650 people in a hall of around 1,600 square metres, with a wide stage configured for professional theatrical and musical presentations. A spacious foyer with a bar adds a social dimension to visits, reinforcing the venue's role as a meeting place for the region. The programme spans theatrical productions, film screenings, and concerts across a broad range of genres, giving it a genuinely mixed use character rather than the focus of a dedicated concert hall. On site technical staff cover lighting, sound, and projection, and the theatre also hosts corporate events and conferences. The venue sits close to the North Sea coast and is accessible from the A9 motorway in around ten minutes, with free on site parking. For a temporary relocation, Haventheater IJmuiden functions as more than a stopgap: the combination of its sizeable auditorium, complete technical infrastructure, and distinct port town atmosphere has established it as a cultural anchor for the IJmuiden and Velsen area during what is expected to be a multi year renovation of the original Groeneweg theatre.
